SEPTEMBER DISCUSSION - WHOSE TRASH IS IT?
Alyson-
We often hear from clients about trash from neighboring stores cluttering up their entrances or other such complaints. It is our contention that circumstances like this can be turned into situations that benefit everyone.
So you may spend some extra time cleaning up those pieces of litter that flew off the trash can next door. In the end, you are creating a more pleasant environment for everyone. Showing the pride you have in your store by keeping it clean, and by having a positive attitude can be infectious. The more you do things like this, the more your neighbors will also. In the end, everyone is better off!
Also, having this type of attitude makes it easier to work together for common goals. As we discussed in this month's newsletter, often their are creative solutions and ways to help increase business for the larger group. You just have to work together to find exciting ways to do so.

Mike-
Cleanliness in parking lots, etc. is contagious to shoppers and passers-by as well and they create less litter and mess in clean environments. This is true in the inner city as well as the suburbs. It is about taking responsibility and not always looking for others (merchants associations, local governments, landlords, etc.) to take care of things for you.
You need to do business today and a clean attractive store makes a difference and cannot wait, it needs to be right...right now.
